Internet Browsing Using Firefox & the Best Extensions 1 Install Firefox Install Firefox with Google Toolbar and run Firefox. 2 Install "Mass Installer" extension Install Mass Installer extension which will let us install many Firefox extensions at once. On the notification bar at the top you will be asked to allow permission for the site to install the extension. 3 Saving & Editing the Extensions URL Lists I have created a URL List for the best Firefox Extension. Right click on this link Firefox Extensions #1 URL List and choose "Save Link As..." If you want to remove extensions from the URL List, open it from the location you saved it. The URL List has the following extension in the same order. You do not need to install the extensions one by one if you mass install the URL List. Accessibar - Visual display options for any site (background color, text color, font size & more) Add Bookmark Here - Adds an "Add Bookmark" option to each bookmark folder (makes saving bookmarks more efficient) Bookmark All - Bookmark all open tabs at once Bookmark Backup - Backups up your bookmarks on exit (also other Firefox settings can be backed up) Configuration Mania - Configure various hidden preferences & enable uninstall for all extensions Customize Google - Customize & tweak Google (suggests words as your typing, removes ads & more) CuteMenus - Crystal SVG - Adds icons to menu commands & other places DownThemAll - Download files using filter options, resume downloads, increase D/L speed Download Statusbar - Places download manager in status bar instead of window FasterFox - Automatically speeds up Firefox Forecastfox - Cute weather icons in the status bar GTtranslate - Translate full texts using Google Translate Google Preview - Shows website thumbnails in Google IE Tab - Open links in Internet Explorer within a Firefox tab InFormEnter - Easily insert any text into text fields Open Download - Open downloaded files with default program assigned by your operating system Tab Mix Plus - Many extra tab options (useful: session saver, undo close tab, X button for all tabs) Install the Full URL List: Tools > Extensions > Mass Installer > Options > Find > choose the location of the URL List. 4 Using & Configuring the Most Important Extensions To edit an extension's options go to Tools > Extensions > click on the desired extension and on options. Right click the selection and choose Translate (you can also change languages) IE Tab Usage If you visit a website that doesn't work well in Firefox, press the small Firefox icon in the status bar. It will change to an Internet Explorer icon and will load the site as if you were loading it in Internet Explorer. InFormEnter Usage & Configuration InFormEnter adds an option to every text box allowing you to easily insert any text into text fields. InFormEnter is the small white box with a blue arrow inside it. To disable and enable InFormEnter right click the icon on the status bar. To edit the text show in the text box context menu, left click the status bar icon and choose options. Erase the current text and add common text you use to the list. Now you can easily insert common text into text boxes. Just left click the InFormEnter icon of the desired text box and choose a text line. Tab Mix Plus Configuration & Usage Tab Mix Plus is a very important extension, there are many options we should change. Links Open links that open in a new window - New tab JavaScript popups - Allow all popups Remove "Open links with a target attribute in current tab" Events - Tab Closing - Add "Do not close window when closing last tab by hotkey" Events - Tab Features - Max number of closed tabs to remember - 15 Display - Tab Bar Remove "Close tab button" Remove "Hide tab bar when only one tab bar is open" Display - Tab - Customize Styles - Unread Tabs - Remove "Italic" & "Text Color" - Add "Bold" - OK Menu - Tab Context Menu Add Duplicate Tab Remove Reload Tab, Reload All Tabs, Close Tab & Protect Tab Menu - Main Context Menu - Remove "Undo Close Tab" Session - Start/Exit - When Browser Starts - Restore Session - Preserve - Add "Closed tabs list" 5 Configuring the Toolbars Before you start configuring the toolbars, type a letter in the Google search box in order to display the text search button. Right click the one of the toolbars (except for Accessibar which is unconfigurable) and choose Customize. Drag the address bar to the file menu toolbar above. Remove the Go button and the Firefox search box. Drag the Google search box from the Google Toolbar to the right of the HomePage icon. Drag AutoFill, PageRank, ABC, Highlight & the text search button from the Google Toolbar to the right of the Google search box. Add "List of opened tabs" between the Google search box and the AutoFill button. Close the windows, right click a toolbar and disable Google Toolbar.
